What does a night in an Alpine hut cost? 2026 prices by country
A bed in a shared room in an Alpine hut costs roughly 15–40 euros, and Alpine Club members pay less: at least 12 euros less in German and Austrian huts, 20% less in Italy and 40% less in Slovenia. A night with half board costs roughly 55–90 euros, and 60–90 francs in Switzerland. The prices here come from the clubs' 2026 tariffs, each with a source.
Germany, Austria and South Tyrol
The three clubs share one tariff. In a category I hut a member paid at most 15 euros in 2026 for a bunk in a large dormitory (Lager), 25 euros in a smaller shared room and 36 euros in a two-bed room. Non-members pay at least 12 euros more. From January 2027 the tariff rises: at a Munich section hut, for example, a member's bunk goes to 18 euros.
Each hut prices its own half board, usually 40–60 euros on top of the bed, and a hut may not make a bed booking conditional on half board. Bergwelten's example of a member's day in a shared room: bed 25, dinner with drinks 25, breakfast 15 and a shower 3, so 68 euros.
Switzerland
In Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) huts a bed usually costs 25–45 francs, and a night with half board 60–90 francs. At the Konkordiahütte a member paid 34 francs for the bed and 76 for half board in 2026, and non-members 49 and 91.
From 2027 every night adds a solidarity contribution of 3 francs for members and 5 for non-members, and a 10-franc booking fee that is not refunded on cancellation.
Italy
In Italian Alpine Club (CAI) huts the official 2026 tariff caps a dormitory bed at 30–39 euros, or 24–31.20 euros for Alpine Club members. Each hut sets its half board, with at least 20% off for members; in the Dolomites it is usually 60–80 euros a night. From 1 October to 30 April non-members pay a 30% heating supplement.
France and the Tour du Mont Blanc
In French Alpine Club (FFCAM) refuges the bed and meals are separate. At the Chalet des Contamines a bed costs 19.50 euros, half that for club members, and half board 56 euros. In the private refuges on the Tour du Mont Blanc a night with half board in a shared room costs roughly 70–90 euros; at the Refuge des Mottets it is 85 euros in 2027.
Slovenia and Corsica
In Slovenia a bed in a shared room in a category I hut costs up to 30 euros, or 18 euros for club members, under the Alpine Association of Slovenia's recommended prices.
In Corsica, along the GR20, a bunk in a park refuge cost 20 euros in 2026, your own tent 12 euros and a rented tent 27 euros single or 39 double. Meals are paid separately, in cash.
What else costs money
A shower, where there is one, usually costs a few euros: 3 in Bergwelten's example. Hot water for tea costs members 3 euros a litre in German and Austrian huts. A sleeping bag liner is compulsory, and forgetting one costs you: 12 euros to rent or buy in South Tyrol's huts. And many huts add a tourist tax of a euro or two a night.
How to save
This section is our advice, not a count from the shelter table. Everything else on this page states a number we hold.
Join an Alpine Club before the trek: in German and Austrian huts the saving is at least 12 euros a night, so a 75-euro membership pays for itself after about 6–7 nights.
In German, Austrian and South Tyrol huts you can book just the bed and eat from the menu, and a dormitory bunk is clearly cheaper than a small room. August is the expensive, crowded month in the valleys; early July and early September are cheaper and quieter.
