In short
Our table holds 147 huts and shelters across 3 areas of the Bavarian Alps, 86 of them staffed. Most huts in Germany belong to the German Alpine Club (DAV): in 2026 a member paid at most 15 euros for a dormitory bunk and 25 euros in a smaller room, and non-members at least 12 euros more. Prices rise in January 2027, and most huts are booked through hut-reservation.org.
What a hut night costs in Germany
Huts of the German (DAV), Austrian (ÖAV) and South Tyrol (AVS) Alpine Clubs share one tariff. In a category I hut, an Alpine Club member paid at most 15 euros in 2026 for a bunk in a large dormitory (Lager), 25 euros in a smaller shared room and 36 euros in a two-bed room. Non-members pay at least 12 euros more for every kind of room.
Each hut prices its own half board (dinner and breakfast), usually 40–60 euros on top of the bed, and a hut may not make a bed booking conditional on half board. A sleeping bag liner is compulsory. At the Höllentalangerhütte below the Zugspitze, half board cost 42 euros in 2026, bed not included.
The tariff rises in 2027. At the same hut a member will pay 18 euros for a bunk and 30 for a smaller shared room, and non-members 35 and 49 euros.
How to book, and what happens if you cancel
Most huts are booked through hut-reservation.org, the shared system of the German, Austrian, Swiss and South Tyrol Alpine Clubs, which replaced alpsonline.org at the end of 2024 and covers more than 500 huts. Some huts take bookings only by phone or email.
Cancellation terms are set by each section. At the Munich section's huts, for example, cancelling is free until 7 days before; 10 euros per bed per night from 6 to 3 days before; 15 euros in the last two days; and 20 euros for cancelling after 18:00 the day before. It is free if there is alpine danger on the way up, such as avalanches.
Is it worth joining an Alpine Club?
At the DAV's Munich section an adult paid 121 euros in 2026, with 10% off for joining after 1 March, 30% after 1 June and 50% after 1 September. The card is valid from the day after signing up online.
Membership of one club gets member rates in the huts of every club in the reciprocity agreement: German, Austrian, Swiss, Italian, French, Slovenian and more. There is no point buying a second club's card.
Getting there from Tel Aviv
Munich is the gateway to the Bavarian Alps, and to Tirol in Austria too. It has had two Lufthansa flights a day from Tel Aviv since August 2026.
After the disruption of 2026 direct routes from Tel Aviv change often, so check the current schedule, and book the huts before the flight.
